Dr Maritta R. von Bieberstein Koch-Weser
is Founder and President of Earth3000.
Earth3000, an international non-profit organization founded
in 2001, is based in Berlin, Germany. Earth3000 supports
innovations in governance for environment and development.

Maritta Koch-Weser is also CEO of the The
Global Exchange for Social Investment - GEXSI, which interconnects
Social Investors and Social Entrepreneurs. GEXSI promotes
private sector development investment and provides investors
with quality assurance in the selection and implementation
of projects, programs, and partnerships.
For almost twenty years, from 1980 to 1998, Maritta Koch-Weser
worked at the World Bank where she held several senior management
positions. She was engaged in the build-up of environmental
and social programs and policies. In her most recent World
Bank assignment she was Director for Environmentally and Socially
Sustainable Development for the Latin America and Carribean
Region.
Subsequently, Maritta Koch-Weser served for 2 years as Director
General of IUCN - The World Conservation Union, the world's
largest umbrella organization of environmental institutions,
bringing together a membership of Governments and Government
Agencies, hundreds of civil society organizations, and a world-wide
network of academic and scientific commissions.
During the earlier stages of her career, Dr Koch-Weser taught
Anthropology and Latin American Studies at George Washington
University in Washington DC. She holds a Ph.D. from the Universities
of Bonn and Cologne, and carried out extensive research
in Brazil.
Presently, Maritta Koch-Weser also serves on a number of supervisory
and advisory boards to associations engaged in causes
relevant to the work of Earth3000, and as Director of Bieberstein
Forum for Environment and Development, a small conference
facility outside Dresden, Germany.
